One Week Down - its all about the portions

Admittedly, I've skipped the treadmill this morning.   I've skipped walking the trail as well.  I decided to just pull back a little for the day.   As long as I get back on tomorrow, I will be okay.   I did walk up and down our drive like six times chasing off a dog from the down the road, so I did get a few steps in.   Our drive is not like pulling off the street and arriving at the garage in a few feet like you would in a suburban neighborhood, it is probably about six car lengths.

Today marks Day 7 in my renewed resolve to take on a healthier lifestyle.   It also marks "portion day" for me.  That means taking time in my schedule to sit down and portion out my snacks for the next week or so.  The point in doing this is really two-fold.  One, it saves me time.  Two, it stops me from going for less healthy options that are in the house ( because I am not the only person living here, but I am the only one on this journey right now ) .

I purchased snack portion baggies for my snacks to make things convenient.  I have a theory that the serving sizes on packages are not what is actually recommended as a portion.   Probably because I have a chart posted on my cabinet showing me what actual portion sizes should look like and most times serving sizes and portion sizes are not the same at all!   What I do when I'm setting up for the week is I look at what the package says is the serving size.  For example  Veggie Straws a serving size is 38 straws.    I portion out half of that.   My little snack bag gets 19 straws and gets closed up.

We have a little Country Store up the road and I'm able to purchase sunflower seeds, chickpeas, pumpkin seeds and sesame sticks in bulk.   I portion those out by the tablespoon, mixing them all in one bag.  Its all time consuming but in the long run its all worth the minutes I spend.

Its still early in the day, I don't suspect its going to cool down at all so I will most likely go to the YMCA this afternoon unless the family decides to suddenly do something else!
