One Week Down - its all about the portions

Image
Admittedly, I've skipped the treadmill this morning.   I've skipped walking the trail as well.  I decided to just pull back a little for the day.   As long as I get back on tomorrow, I will be okay.   I did walk up and down our drive like six times chasing off a dog from the down the road, so I did get a few steps in.   Our drive is not like pulling off the street and arriving at the garage in a few feet like you would in a suburban neighborhood, it is probably about six car lengths.   Today marks Day 7 in my renewed resolve to take on a healthier lifestyle.   It also marks "portion day" for me.  That means taking time in my schedule to sit down and portion out my snacks for the next week or so.  The point in doing this is really two-fold.  One, it saves me time.  Two, it stops me from going for less healthy options that are in the house ( because I am not the only person living here, but I am the...

Day 5 - The Journey continues

Hello!    I have hit my 10,000 steps per day ( and a few more ) for 8 consecutive days!  That's pretty impressive for a gal that was barely hitting 4,000 steps a day just two months ago.    For the most part, I am sticking to watching what I am eating.  I am VERY conscious of everything I eat so when I do fall and eat three vanilla creme sandwich cookies,  I am loathe to log it, but I do.  I purchased one of those weight-loss hula hoops.  I've watched a bunch of TikTok videos on them and since I did browse for them my social media sites were flooded with ads for them.   The claim is that if you use this for 30 minutes a day you can trim up to 2 inches off your waist in just one month.  The only directions that come with the device are the ones on how to clip it together.   Whomever designed it is under the assumption that I know how to actually hula.     Apparently I do not.     I'm ...

Day Two

This morning I woke to the aftermath of a night storm with promises of more rain to come.    I debated going for a walk, worried that I might get too far out on the trail and then get caught out in a torrential downpour.   I went for the walk anyway, but I admit, Zoey-Bear and I did not walk nearly as far as we usually do.   The thought of walking a long-distance soaking wet was not appealing to either of us.    I did go the opposite direction on the Ruby Jack Trail this morning.  So technically, I wasn't even on the official walking trail, but I was on the official rail line.   It was overgrown and we had to skirt around a fallen tree or two, but for the most part, it was walkable.   We did not go far, again, the concern about the rain and that I wasn't 100% certain that I wasn't trespassing.   I didn't see any purple on posts or trees, and I didn't see any signs, but I still didn't feel comfortable. ...

I'm currently weighing in at a whopping 292 lbs.  At least that's what that scale shot back at me this morning.   Its very frustrating to me as I've been watching my portions and exercising much more for the past three weeks, yet those numbers don't seem to move.    Because of my tall frame 5'9"  I can handle the weight better than some ladies, but 300lbs is still way too much.     I have made a goal of 10,000 steps a day and I've been hitting that mark or close to it for the past 2 weeks.  However, its not enough.   I need to start hitting the YMCA a few times a week and do some weight training and maybe some swimming.   Everything I've been reading is pointing out that you have to do the weight training, the cardio, the diet.   Its all tied together.  And even though I absolutely detest it,   I have to log my food.   It works, I know that, I just hate having to write everyth...
